STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Will Rogers threw for threw for 227 yards and Mississippi State overcame a slow start and rolled 48-7 over Southeastern Louisiana in the season opener for both schools on Saturday.The game marked the debut of head coach Zach Arnett, who coached the Bulldogs in the ReliaQuest Bowl win over Illinois to close the 2022 season after legendary coach Mike Leach died suddenly last December. Leach was honored by the Bulldogs following the first quarter with his widow, Sharon in attendance.The Bulldogs had just a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter before putting up 17 points in the second in a 20-7 lead at the half. CINCINNATI (AP) — Emory Jones threw five touchdown passes and ran for two more scores as Cincinnati opened its first season in the Big 12 Conference with a 66-13 rout of FCS-member Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.Jones’ seven total touchdowns tied a career high. The Florida and Arizona State transfer threw six scores and ran for another against Samford on Nov. 13, 2021, while playing for the Gators.Cincinnati got the ball first and first-year coach Scott Satterfield’s offense took just 3:09 to get on the board. Jones led a seven-play, 71-yard drive that ended with a 49-yard pass down the Eastern Kentucky sideline to wide receiver Xzavier Henderson for a touchdown.Jones completed all four of his passes on the opening drive. Two schools are coming together to bridge the gap for high school students. Starting this Tuesday, 50 Grade 11 and 12 students from the Peel District School Board will have their first day of school at Algoma University which has a campus location in Brampton. It’s part of their inaugural Learners Early Access Program, also known as LEAP. Two suspects have been arrested in connection to a shooting death in Aurora’s Dayton Triangle neighborhood.Donald Howard, 18, and Jordan Zachary Leday, 27, both face a first-degree murder charge as suspects in the Monday shooting of a 20-year-old victim in the 1500 block of South Galena Way, the Aurora Police Department said in a news release.Howard was arrested Wednesday by the Regional Anti-Violence Enforcement Network as part of a Colorado Organized Crime Control Act investigation. Authorities are investigating after a body was discovered under a bridge in Playa del Rey on Saturday.The body was found in a “shed-like structure in a concealed space" below the Culver Boulevard bridge shortly before 11 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The remains were identified as an approximately 40-year-old man. Police are investigating the case as a suspicious death.When authorities arrived at the scene, they encountered a foul odor that led them to a livable structure built into the rafters and pipes beneath the bridge.Rescue crews worked to extricate the man from the confined space near the Ballona Creek flood control channel but said access to the shed proved difficult.
