Ask Amy: Was it wrong to return these unwanted letters to the sender?

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 04:56:01 GMT

Dear Amy: After I retired, I had time to go through boxes of personal papers that I had saved. These included letters that current friends and family had written to me over many years. It was fun rereading many of these, but at this point in my life I don’t feel the need to keep them.Instead of throwing them away, I decided that the sender might enjoy reading what they had written decades earlier, so I bundled packets of their individual letters off with notes to the effect: “Cleaning house! Here’s a blast from your past! Enjoy!”Now months later, I have not heard back from one person.I’m questioning whether I did something wrong.I know that I would enjoy reading letters I wrote many years ago, but maybe that’s just me.Related ArticlesAdvice | Ask Amy: I asked for money and she gave me a painting. Harriette Cole: Something is wrong with my ankles, and I don’t know what to do

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 04:56:01 GMT

DEAR HARRIETTE: I have noticed that my ankles swell a lot these days. I don’t know what has caused this, but it is happening with some frequency.I have the cheapest health insurance, so I don’t really want to go to the doctor. The co-pay is high, and I worry that they will either not pay close attention to me or find something terrible that’s wrong with me that I can’t afford to treat. So far, I have not done anything about it. I’m sure that’s not the way to handle this. What do you recommend? Swollen AnklesDEAR SWOLLEN ANKLES: Of course you should go to the doctor, preferably your own primary physician if you have one. That is because a doctor who knows you may have a better sense of your overall health than someone you are just meeting.Even if you have to pay a hefty co-pay, that’s lower than having to deal with an emergency situation.Related ArticlesAdvice | Harriette Cole: I felt so awkward on this trip with a co-worker Ad...

Once he realized a woman was under the bridge, he called 911.“I need the Coast Guard down here to the Okeechobee Bridge and Intercoastal,” said Jeffrey Roberts to the 911 dispatcher. “Some girl fell through the bridge when it was open with her bike and she stuck up under this ledge.”The woman was walking her bicycle across the Royal Park Bridge. The bridge opened before she and her bike fell between the spans, with the bike lodged terrifyingly under the bridge. The woman landed on one of the platforms and was not seriously injured, but she was stuck on the platform with the threat of the drawbridge possibly opening again.“We didn’t...
