Woman with medical condition dies in police custody, according to San Jose authorities SAN JOSE — A woman died in police custody Saturday after she was rejected by Santa Clara County Main Jail medical staff and sent back to a local hospital, police said.In a statement, San Jose police said the woman was arrested on June 6 for an outstanding arrest warrant. During the initial arrest, she told officers she had a medical condition that required a hospital visit. She remained in Santa Clara Valley Medical Center until June 10, when she was discharged by staff.The woman was transported by a San Jose police officer to the main jail, where she was rejected by the medical staff. She was then brought back to the hospital by ambulance, where she later died.Authorities did not release any more information about why the woman had been rejected by jail staff.
